Lindsey Buckingham has vocal cord damage after open heart surgery

Former Fleetwood Mac star Lindsey Buckingham is recovering at home after undergoing emergency open heart surgery.

The singer’s wife, Kristen, has confirmed the news in a statement, revealing Lindsey suffered a vocal cord injury during his operation.

“Each day he is stronger than the last,” she says. “While he and his heart are doing well, the surgery resulted in vocal cord damage. While it is unclear if the damage is permanent, we are hopeful it is not.

“This past year has been a very stressful and difficult year for our family, to say the least. But despite all this, our gratitude for life trumps all obstacles we have faced at this moment. We feel so fortunate he’s alive. As does he. He looks forward to recovery and putting this behind him.”

Kristen also posted a photograph of her husband with his throat bandaged on Instagram.

Buckingham was fired from Fleetwood Mac following a bust up with bandmate and former girlfriend Stevie Nicks at the MusiCares Person of the Year gala a year ago.

His former bandmates ignored their drama on Friday and wished the guitarist well, tweeting: “We are saddened by this news. Our thoughts and love go out to Lindsey and his entire family. We are hopeful for his speedy recovery.”
