NEED TO KNOW

  • Hot seats: Flyers coach Alain Vigneault said he needs more from the team’s highest-paid players, veteran forwards Claude Giroux (two goals, five assists through 11 games) and Jake Voracek (four goals, five assists). “What is true about our team is no different than any other team,” Vigneault said after practice Thursday. “We need goaltending. We need our top players to lead the way for us.”
  • Warm front: After an ice-cold start, ex-Leaf James van Riemsdyk had three goals and three assists over a four-game stretch. Van Riemsdyk went the first seven games without a point … Oskar Lindblom scored his sixth goal of the season in his 11th game. He needed 49 games to score six last season.
  • Shake it up: The Flyers made a half-dozen roster moves Thursday, giving the fourth line and two defence pairs a different look. A pair of 2016 draft picks — first-rounder German Rubtsov and third-rounder Carsen Twarynski — will play on the fourth unit, while Philippe Myers, an undrafted free agent signed a couple of years ago, was called up to help the defence. “We’re still figuring some things out,” said Vigneault.
